In this tutorial, we’re going to bulk onboard Artelo’s Etsy and Shopify stores from start to finish. Along the way, we’ll walk through several common use cases that may apply to your own account. These examples help cover a wide range of needs. Some sellers join Artelo to add additional size options to their existing designs. Others want to offer new framing options or simplify their catalog by standardizing variation structures. Some sellers use Artelo to fulfill only part of their listing variants, while others want to preserve their current listings as-is and simply fulfill existing options through Artelo. Each of these use cases is supported through the bulk connection flow.

Common Use Cases Covered in This Tutorial:

  • Add new sizes to listings

  • Add framing options

  • Fulfill existing variants without changing the listing

  • Use Artelo to fulfill specific variants within a listing

  • Standardize listings for consistency across your catalog

In a typical onboarding scenario, only one or two of these will apply, but by walking through a complete example, we can demonstrate how each case is handled. So let's get started.

Step 1: Connect Your Stores

Before starting the bulk connection process, you must connect your Etsy and Shopify stores to Artelo.

Go to the Integrations Page

Navigate to the Integrations section within your Artelo account and click the "Connect Integrations" button. From here, you can authorize Artelo to sync with your Etsy or Shopify store. Make sure the sync is fully complete before moving forward. This typically takes 10–20 minutes, depending on how many listings are in your store.

Step 2: Creating Templates

This step will set the foundation for everything that follows. Templates control how your products and listings are structured, from available sizes and paper types to pricing, frame options, shipping profiles, and variation names.

How do you determine how many templates you need?

Each template in Artelo represents a unique listing structure and pricing setup. To determine how many templates you need, group your listings by the variation formats they use. If multiple listings share the same sizes, frame options, and general structure, they can all use the same template.

You’ll need a separate template when:

  • Listings use different size options than others

  • You want to offer different frame choices or paper types

  • The option names (e.g., “Size” vs. “Dimensions”) differ across listings

  • You want to apply different pricing or shipping profiles

  • You offer art sets like sets of 2, 3, 4, etc.

  • For vertical orientations and horizontal orientations.

In short, any group of listings that shares the same structure and settings can use a single template. Listings with meaningful differences will require their own.

Pro Tip: In step one of the bulk connect flow, the Excel download includes a "Grouping" column where Artelo has automatically grouped all of the listings with the same variation structures.

Creating your template

To create a template, follow these steps:

  • Select Stores
Start by choosing the store(s) this template applies to. In our case, we’ll be onboarding the Etsy store first. Later, we’ll reuse these product sets when connecting to Shopify.

  • Name the Template
Give the template a name that clearly describes what it’s for. We recommend naming it based on the type of listings it applies to. For example, we’ll name ours "Individual Art Prints – Vertical" to reflect the orientation and product type.

  • Set Product Settings
Click “Add Product Type” and choose the paper type, available sizes, and framing options for this template. These settings determine which variants will be generated for each product set.

  • Upload Listing Images (Optional)
You can leave this section blank or upload any images you'd like added to the listings that use this template. In our case, we’ll include two listing images about our new framing options.

    • Note: The bulk connect process doesn’t affect your existing listing images unless you add new ones here. If you do upload images, they’ll be added to the end of your listing's image stack. If your listing already uses all available image slots, Artelo will remove the last images to make space for the new ones.

  • Assign a Shipping Profile (Optional)
You can either set a specific shipping profile for all listings using this template or leave this blank. If left blank, any listing updated with this template will keep its current shipping profile.

    • Shipping profiles can be tricky to understand. Read our Shipping Profile article for a quick refresher.

  • Configure Variants
This is one of the most important steps. Here, you’ll set up the variation structure exactly how you want it to appear in your listings, such as how the size and frame options appear in dropdowns.

Note: Carefully ensure the variation options are ordered to your liking. Typically, you'll want to order size options from smallest to largest.

Pro Tip: Use the store listing preview to see how your variant structure will display.

Pro Tip: Artelo's variant configuration feature allows for tons of flexibility. Read our Special Cases and Variant Configurations article to learn more about using our configuration feature to create your preferred variation structure.

  • Set Prices
All variants must have a price. You can set these individually or use the “Set Retail Price in Bulk” feature to save time.

  • Add Listing Details (Optional)
You can add listing titles, descriptions, and tags here. If you leave the title or description fields blank, Artelo will retain the original values from your existing listings.

  • If you want to fully replace your descriptions, enter them here.

  • Any tags added at this stage will be added to existing listing tags, not replace them.

Once your templates are created, you're ready to move on to the next step: assigning these templates to your listings and bulk creating your product sets.
